A sheet price is only the starting point

A laminate furniture quote should explain what you are buying, how much is included and who will complete the work. The decorative sheet is one line in that picture. Boards, inner finishes, edge treatment, hardware, fabrication and installation can all change the total.

The live category figures above, when available, describe listed products in that category. They are not an installed furniture estimate, and a category can contain different finishes or specifications. Use them for browsing context, then request a quote for your exact product codes and drawing.

Begin with a dimensioned drawing and a list of the furniture pieces. Ask whether the quote measures sheet area, finished surface area, front elevation or another unit. A rate without its measurement method is difficult to compare, even when the number looks attractive.

For a broader view of material budgeting, see solid-colour laminate prices and planning. The checklist below is designed to help you uncover what a furniture quotation actually includes.

Laminate swatches, cabinet handles and a hinge arranged beside a blank planning notebook.
Open laminate cabinet drawer showing its runners, handle and finished edges.

Ask for these lines to be visible

Boards and construction. Identify the supporting board, its thickness and the parts of the furniture included. Ask how backs, shelves, drawer bases and exposed side panels are specified. A quote for doors alone is different from one covering the complete cabinet.

Decorative and inner surfaces. Record the laminate brand, range, decor code, finish, sheet dimensions and quantity. Merino or Greenlam without a range and code is not enough to identify a product. List the inner finish and reverse faces separately where they differ from the visible surface.

Cutting and wastage. Ask who prepares the cutting layout and how extra sheets are allowed for trimming, grain direction and usable offcuts. Do not assume that dividing the finished area by the nominal sheet area gives the purchase quantity. Our sheet coverage explanation describes that difference.

Edges and bonding. Confirm the edge material, matching details and adhesive or fabrication scope. Ask whether edge work on shelves and hidden faces is included. Small omitted details can become a series of extra charges after work starts.

Hardware. List hinges, drawer channels, handles and any accessories with model or series details where possible. A line saying “premium hardware” is hard to check against what arrives on site.

Labour and installation. Separate factory or workshop fabrication from site fitting when they are quoted differently. Confirm whether transport, unloading, assembly and any adjustment visit are included.

Taxes and other charges. Ask for an itemised total showing applicable taxes, delivery charges and anything excluded. Clarify who handles electrical, plumbing, wall repairs or removal of existing furniture if those tasks are part of the wider project.

Compare two quotes on the same basis

Give each supplier the same drawing revision and product schedule. Mark each line as included, excluded or awaiting confirmation. If one supplier proposes a substitute, ask them to identify it and explain the price difference separately. That keeps a cheaper total from concealing a different scope.

Use a simple calculation: agreed quantities multiplied by the relevant rates, plus explicitly listed fixed charges and applicable taxes. Check that the units match. Sheet quantities, square feet and finished furniture measurements should not be mixed without explanation.

Ask what happens if site measurements change. Agree how additions will be priced and approved before work proceeds. Record the expected sequence, payment stages and the process for reporting delivery damage or incomplete work. These are commercial questions for the supplier, not facts to infer from a product listing.

When the quote is acceptable, attach the final drawing and finish schedule to the approval. Keep any approved substitutions in writing. A clear quote may take a little longer to prepare, but it makes both the budget and the final handover easier to understand.

Start your material shortlist with solid-colour laminates and wood-look laminates, then compare the exact products within the complete furniture scope.

Questions people ask us

Does the laminate sheet price include furniture installation?

Do not assume it does. Ask the seller what the listed unit covers and obtain a separate itemised scope for fabrication and installation.

How should wastage appear in a quotation?

Ask for the cutting layout or the basis of the sheet allowance. Grain direction, trimming and piece sizes can change the usable quantity.

Can I compare two per-square-foot rates directly?

Only after confirming that the measurement method, specifications and included work are the same. A matching unit label does not guarantee a matching scope.

Should hardware be a separate line?

It is useful to list the models or series and quantities separately so that substitutions and upgrades can be priced clearly.

What should I check before approving the total?

Check the drawing revision, product codes, quantities, exclusions, taxes, delivery, installation and the process for approving later changes.
